People seem to think that what I do is easy, so I thought I would share the process of developing a JHC piece with you and then you can decide.
First we start the concept – a drawing, various pictures with elements of a design, or a combination. Then we evaluate the practical aspects of the design – how does it fasten, do you pull it over your head, do we need a zip, best ways to ensure it fits multiple sizes, length of the skirt….
Once we determine probably quantities of fabric, it’s off in search of material. Usually a sample is done in black – mainly because that’s my main clothing colour!
The first piece is made in sample fabric and it’s seldom right first time. Often it can take three to four attempts to get it right and its very time consuming. Sometimes we never get it right and a design is discarded, which is a total pain.
However, once we are happy with what we have it’s off to source more fabric. This is not easy in Dubai. Getting the colours and quality is very difficult and once you find something you may never find it again.
When all of the pieces are finished its then down to pricing, photographing and launching. Small words but lots of work.
Just as well I love what I do!
