I’m often asked what inspires me when creating the different pieces in my collections and I have to be honest and say that there is rarely an underlying theme.
I recently turned 50 and it doesn’t bother me…so why does it bother others??!!
Sometimes you just need to take time to decompress and lying on the beach is my ideal way. Of course it seems that I can never totally switch off as that’s where I’m lying as I write this. I also cannot stop shopping. I love to buy from hawkers on the beach. I must have 100’s of sarongs from various beach outings – and now I have two more!!
Even though I’m lucky enough to live in Dubai where its nearly always sunny, it’s just not the same as the laid back atmosphere of a beach holiday and pottering around stalls and checking out hawkers selections is one of my favourite ways to chill.
I guess it’s an occupational “hazard” but I do seem to own a large collection of clothes (don’t tell my husband I said that!) and whilst I love my house there was simply not enough room for all of my pieces.
My husband refers to me as an Imelda Marcos wannabe and even the boys have taken to commenting on any new shoe purchases. But I strongly believe that a good outfit can be destroyed by the wrong shoe choice and just by changing your shoes you can transform an outfit from day to night.
Being at that time in my life when my internal thermostat seems to have a life of its own, the fabric that my clothes are made of is of vital importance to me. I do not need anything that is going to bring on a hot flush!
That’s why I am in love with cotton jersey and butter crepe.
I’m going to be 50 next year and I love fashion but it seems to me that women over the age of 35 are not really catered for. The focus always seems to be on younger women, especially in Dubai.
