We have recently opened our first studio and a number of people have asked me what the difference is between a studio and a shop…It’s a fair question.
I recently went to London to check out a wholesale fashion exhibition which is one of the largest in the world and to be honest I was totally underwhelmed.
The clothes seemed to fit into three categories: designed for under 25 year olds, clubbing outfits and “nana” clothes.
It would seem that the fashion industry continues to ignore women aged over 35 years of age who still enjoy fashion.
That’s how JHC came into being and it appears that we are still operating in something of a niche market. It never ceases to amaze me how the fashion industry gives the impression that we disappear once we have kids and perhaps don’t have the figures we once had. That’s simply not true.
Still on a positive note, I did have a fantastic weekend with my girlfriends with lots of laughs.

It is time for me to pick up the pace and launch my first look book. Michael from Michael Kruger Photography and I went back and forth on how we wanted it to look but once we narrowed down some options the final feel came together very quickly and we LOVE what we have come up with.
People seem to think that what I do is easy, so I thought I would share the process of developing a JHC piece with you and then you can decide.
Being at that time in my life when my internal thermostat seems to have a life of its own, the fabric that my clothes are made of is of vital importance to me. I do not need anything that is going to bring on a hot flush!
That’s why I am in love with cotton jersey and butter crepe.
Some days I have to wonder if it’s really worth it!
There is nothing like getting a call from your courier company to tell you they have lost your parcel to make your day – not! Especially when the parcel was meant to be delivered ages ago and it was the last piece.
The other day I met three women who were out shopping. Two had good figures and obviously were into fashion, the third not so much….
